Abstract

Aim: The aim of the research was to examine the master theses published in Turkey regarding the knowledge, thoughts and attitudes of employees on palliative care between 2010 and 2021 and to evaluate the results.

Materials and Methods: In this research, Turkish theses containing the terms “Palliative Care and Information” published between 2010-2021 in the database of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) National Thesis Center in April 2022 were scanned. As a result of the search, 32 theses were reached. 13 theses on the subjects of "knowledge, thought and attitude of the employees" were found and included in the study. It has been observed that all of these theses, except for one specialization in medicine, are "on leave/accessible". 1 medical specialization thesis that was not accessible was not included in the study, the study was carried out with 12 "on leave/accessible" theses. A form was prepared in excel by the researcher and the data were processed in the form. The data obtained are presented in tables as percentages and numbers. Content analysis was also carried out according to the topics covered by the theses.

Results: According to this research, a total of 13 master theses were found, 10 of which were master's theses, 3 of which were specialization theses in medicine, and all of these theses except 1 specialization thesis in medicine were ”allowed/accessible”. For this reason, the sample of the study consists of 12 theses with permission, and it was seen that 7 of the theses examined were written in state and 5 of them were written in foundation universities.

Conclusions: In one of the 12 dissertation studies examined, nurses had a moderate level of knowledge, and in other dissertation studies, it was found that their healthcare professionals had a low level of knowledge about palliative care and training was needed. It is concluded that the in-service trainings provided increase the level of knowledge of healthcare professionals. It was concluded that the experience of palliative care positively affects the level of knowledge and point of view.
